This film was produced and directed by Don Hoffese in 1963.  Fire Chief Carl P. Johnson and the men of the Portland, Maine Fire Department stress the point that fire is dangerous and firefighting is serious business.  This video offers the viewer memorable narration by Harry Marble and detailed footage of the Fire Department and its equipment in action.

Mock emergencies show the special skills required by the crew to fight fires and handle medical crises.  The seriousness of fire safety is driven home with several dramatizations of fatalities due to carelessness.  This historic film still has a poignant message today.
